The purpose of this project is to specify materials that will create an environment that is functional and aesthetically pleasing to the client.

Floor Plan

Material: Black Stained Concrete Flooring. Direct Colors Inc. Used for all areas of flooring.

Sustainability: Stained concrete floors are inexpensive, durable, and easy to get clean. They provide a solid floor surface without any extra materials.

Installation: The concrete stain is applied directly onto the concrete slab.

Maintenance: The floors can be swept clean of debris, then mopped with a non-metallic brush using water and a mild soap.

Calculations: The building’s dimensions are 31’ x 20.5’.

            (31’)(21.5’) = 635.5 ft²

            The total floor surface is 635.5 ft²

            Price of concrete stain = $44.50/gal., and each gallon covers 200 ft²

            635.5/200 = 3.1775. A total of 4 gallons of stain will be needed.

            Price = $178.00. You can’t beat that price!

Material: Sherwin Williams Emerald Interior Acrylic Latex Paint. Color: Library Pewter (SW0038) Used on all wall surfaces.

Sustainability: Has industry leading sustainability. Has zero VOC’s, is washable, and is burnish and block resistant.

Installation: The paint is painted on the walls.

Maintenance: The dried paint can be wiped with a dry towel. If further cleaning is necessary, the wall can be wiped down with a soft cloth and mild soapy water.

Calculations: The building’s ceilings are 9’ tall. Interior wall dimensions are as follows:

            (2)(31’)(9’) = 558 ft²

            (2)(6’)(9’) = 108 ft²

            (6)(6’)(9’) = 324 ft²

            (2)(10’)(9’) = 180 ft²

Total wall space = 1,368 ft²

Price of paint = $70/gal., and each gallon covers 350 ft²

Material: Brooks Custom Stainless Steel countertops, tabletops, and desk surfaces. Used for all tables, desks, and counters.

Sustainability: Corrosion resistant, durable, has a high recycled content, and can last a lifetime.

Installation: The measurements are sent to the manufacturer, the steel is cut, and fitted onto a wooden base.

Maintenance: Surfaces can be cleaned with water, a mild soap, or specialized stainless steel cleaner.

Calculations: The surface area calculations are as follows:

            Office desktop                        (5’)(2.5’) = 12.5 ft²

            Conference tabletop                         (10’)(3’) = 30 ft²

            Reception desktop                         (2’)(6’) = 12 ft²

            Break room countertop            (2’)(6’) = 12 ft²

            Total surface area                                    66.5 ft²

            Price of stainless steel = $140/ft²

            (66.5)(140) = 9,240

            Price = $9,240.00.

Material: SheerWeave Retractable Window Shades. Color: Granite (P10). Used as a treatment for all windows.

Sustainability: SheerWeave is eco-friendly,PVC-free, recyclable, and is produced from 100% post-industrial waste by-product. It is durable, washable, resistant to fungal growth, and reduces solar heat and UV glare.

Installation: The window measurements are sent to the manufacturer and they are produced at the exact measurements. These retractable window treatments are hung in the interior of the window jamb.

Maintenance: The fabric window panels can be removed from the retractable roll and washed in a washing machine.

Calculations: The building has two windows that are 3’ wide and 6’ tall. Their dimensions are as follows:

            (2)(3’)(6’) = 36 ft²

            Price of window treatment = $64.50/per window.

            Total price: $129.00.

Material: Carnegie Performance Upholstery. Color: Locket (6330). Used for ergonomic desk chair and conference chairs.

Sustainability: Qualifies for heavy-duty contract use.

Installation: The fabric is upholstered onto the chairs.

Maintenance: Water and bleach cleanable.

Calculations: The ergonomic desk chair (1) requires 2 yards of fabric. The conference chairs (10) each need 2 yards of fabric, amounting to 20 yards of fabric. The total amount of fabric needed is 22 yards.

            (1)(2) = 2 yds.

            (10)(2) = 20 yds.

            Price per yard of fabric = $65.60.

            (22)(65.50) = 1,441

            Total price of fabric: $1,441.00.

Solution Statement: For this office, I have created an industrial and clean environment using sustainable materials such as stained concrete flooring, stainless steel countertop surfaces, and durable upholstery. A neutral color scheme will make the space appear larger. Not only are the chosen materials aesthetically pleasing, they are also functional, durable, and sustainable. The total price for the materials for this project came out to $11,408.00.
